National Awards For Excellence In Packaging, Packaging Machinery Design & Development

The Organisers

The Indian Institute of Packaging is an autonomous and apex body set up by Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Govt. of India and the Industry for promotion of packaging standards in the country in 1966. With Its headquarter and the principal laboratories In Mumbai and other regional offices and laborato­ries, the activities of the institute are in line with those of the world’s premiere packaging Institutes.

IIP’s activities Includes training, education, research & development, organizing seminars, conference and exhibitions, awards consultancy and projects, laboratory testing, quality evaluation of packing material and packages, information, publication, membership services and many more. The Institute is closely linked with all international organizations concerned with packaging technologies. IIP is the only national Institute representing India at Asian Packaging Federation (APF) and World Packaging Organisation (WPC).

INDIASTAR

Objective

To encourage improvements and give recognition to Innovative concepts in packaging. INDIASTAR Awards are all about promoting and encouraging excel­lence in packaging design. Innovation and technology.The Award Contest estab­lished in 1972 is firmly entrenched and most popular & premier event for India’s Packaging fraternity.

Eligibility

  • ‘Open to all packages design, developed, manufactured In India and in commer­cial use in India/ Abroad. Manufacture, Converter, designer or the user of such packages can nominate the entries.
  • ‘Entries under Student Category must be submitted from the students of the Institutions in India of current academic year. The permission for entry must be endorsed by the Institutes head.
  • The entry may not have been submitted for consideration in the earlier contest.

Categories of Entry

(a) Consumer Package (b) Transport Package (c) Packaging Material & Adjunct (d) Food Package (e) Pharmaceutical Package (f) Ecofriendly Package (g) Student Category (Prototype packages developed by the students).

Criteria for Selection

The Entries submitted will be judged based on: 

  • Originality of design
  • Visual appeal
  • Cost effectiveness & over-all packaging economics
  • Eco-friendliness ‘Convenience to users, retailers, consumers etc.

Statement

A factual, technical and detailed statement limited to 300 words, covering the points in ‘Criteria for Selection’ should be submitted on company letterhead and also in soft copy (MS Word format] along with the entry.

Jury Panel

The panel will consist of eminent persons in academics, research, government and experts in related areas. The deci­sion of the Jury will be final and binding on all the entrants.

Entry Fee:

  • The entry fee is Rs 9000/- per entry, payable bank transfer or b demand draft or cheque in favour of  ‘Indian Institute of Packaging’ payable at Mumbai.
  • Rs 1000/- per entry in respect of Student category only for student entry.

Entry Procedure:

Each entry should consist of completed entry form, statement, entry fee, photos or soft copies of pictures  in JPG (300dpi) showing a good representa­tion of package, features. One filled and two empty samples of the entry to be submitted to the institute on below address with mention – “SAMPLE PACKAGE FOR INDIASTAR AWARD 2022.”

Final Date for Submission of Entries:

Entries with duly filled forms and other supporting most reach at IIP, Mumbai on / before 31th  August 2022 . Entries will not be accepted after this date.

Award Function:

Each winner will get a glittering INDIASTAR trophy and a certificate. A Special Certificate of Recognition will be given to each winner who will win more than 10 awards. The Awards will be presented to the winners in a gala award function.

Judging:

The Panel of Jury will meet In the Institute for judging and assessment of the entries in August 2022.

Scope & Benefits:

  • All winners will have the right to prominently display the term INDIASTAR AWARD WINNER 2022 on stationary, corporate brochures, annual reports, letterheads and other publicity material.
  • All the winners will be featured in a series of Press Release which will be sent to many of the Packaging Publications worldwide.
  • The brief report on the contest along with the Winners details will be published in the bimonthly magazine PACKAGING INDIA and on IIP website  after the announcement of the result.
  • The winners of Indiastar Award  are eligible to contest for the Asiastar and Worldstar awards organized by the Asian Packaging Federation and World Packaging Organisastion respectively.

INDIASTAR Winners' Catalogue:

IIP will publish a Winners Catalogue highlighting the winning entries with their Illustration. The copies will be circulated amongst all the winners of Indiastar/Pacmachine 2022 Packaging and allied indus­try members, IIP member companies and to APF and WPO as well. Notes:

  • The entrant must have the title, all the rights of entry. IIP or the Panel of Jury cannot be held respon­sible for any disputes on design/development/ownership rights of any entry, etc.
  • In the event that more than one organization is involved in the design/development of an entry, the names should be so indicated on the entry-form and the entry should be submitted as a Joint Entry.
  • Winners of the Joint Entry will receive only one trophy and certificate. Additional trophy can be obtained on extra cost.
  • The Indiastar Award is given for the package only. The word ‘Indiastar’ cannot be used for advertising the contents/product.
  • Additional trophies can be ordered with an extra cost after the Award Declaration.
  • No duplicate certifi­cates will be given to the winners after the Award Function.
  • Entries, incomplete in any aspect are liable to be rejected.
  • The jury reserves the right to obtain any additional Information about the entry submitted.
  • The decision of the jury will be final and binding in all respects. No correspondence of any manner shall be entertained with this regards in any case.

PACMACHINE

Objectives:

  • To encourage improvements and give recognition to Innovative concepts in design and development of packaging machinery specially import substitution / export promotion.

Eligibility:

  • The entry should be fully designed, developed and produced in India with indigenous know-how.
  • The entrant must have the title, all the rights of the entry. IIP or the Panel of Jury cannot be held responsible for any dispute on design / development ownership/ rights of the entry.

Categories of Entry:

Open to all types of machinery manufactured in India for use in packaging operations as listed below:

  • Packaging Conversion Machinery: Container / bottle / box making, laminating, coating machines, thermoforming etc.
  • Packaging Machinery: Machines for package/ product filling-sealing, forming etc.
  • Other Packaging Machinery –  Covering on-line multiple operations such as package erection, filling, closing, collat­ing, bulk packaging unitising, palletising etc.
  • Supporting  Packaging Machinery : Capping, Closing, Labelling, Overprinting, Strap­ping, Sealing, Package testing, quality evaluation etc.

Jury Panel:

The panel will consist of specialist from academics, technical bodies and industry on aspects of design, development, production and performance of machinery.

Entry Fee:

Statement:

A factual, technical and detailed statement limited to 300 words on company letterhead, and also in soft copy (MS Word format) covering the special features, specifics of design, developments, innova­tions. use, advantages and effectiveness is to be submitted. Cost competitiveness, function versatility. National / International Certification, domestic and export market value, environmental friendliness. Names of some of the users of the entry are to be furnished. 

Entry Procedure:

Each entry should consist of Completed entry-form, Statement, Entry-fee, Soft copies of pictures  in JPG (300dpi) showing a good representation of machine, features marked with name of the entry & company name. In addition a video(low resolution) or a presentation of maximum 2 minute duration showing working of the machine to be uploaded along with the application. The video/presentation should bring out the functional aspects of the entry very dearly. Scale-models are also welcome.

Final date for Submission of Entries:

Entries with duly filled forms and other supporting must reach at IIP, Mumbai on/before 31st  AUGUST 2022 at the latest along with payment Entries will not be accepted after this date.

Judging Procedure:

A representative of the entrant company has to make a 10-minute presentation to the Panel of Jury at the given time and the date at the Institute. Laptop & LCD projector will be provided if required on prior intimation.

Date of Judging:

The panel of jury will meet at the Institute during the SEPTEMBER  2022. The entrants will be informed of the date and the allotted time slot in advance. 

Award Function:

Each winner will get a glittering PACMACHINE trophy and a certificate.The Awards will be presented to the winners in a gala award function. The date of Award presentation will be notified later.
